Living in Harmony
There are nearly 8,000,000,000 people in the world.
- Can that many people live in harmony?
- Is unity possible?
- Is fairness possible?
- Is cooperation possible.
Today let us look at “Unity”.
What does Unity mean?
- We were all created by God. Why did He make us?
- We are all His servants. What does that mean?
- We all breathe the same air, live on the same earth, receive light and warmth from the same sun.
- We are part of one human family. How are we like a family?
Can we be in unity, but also be different?
- Like a garden bursting with all kinds of flowers
- Like a beautiful melody with many different notes and instruments.
- Like waves of one sea, grass in one meadow, leaves of one tree – united by the love of God.
Think of the human body
- All the different parts work together to make it healthy and strong.
- As we all work together, each doing our part, we see the power of unity.
To memorize
So powerful is the light of unity that it can illuminate the whole earth

Story
Every day many people came to visit ‘Abdu’l-Baha in His home, and He welcomed them all with open arms. One day, a gentleman arrived at the house and was greeted warmly. Sometime later, while this gentleman was still visiting with ‘Abdu’l-Baha, a second man came to call, and he, too, was warmly welcomed.
Now, it so happened that these two men had a disagreement, and they were not at all happy to see each other. In fact, they did not even want to be in the same room together. What would happen? Both wanted to be with the Master (‘Abdu’l-Baha).
What would happen? Both want to be with the Master. Would one of them decide to leave?
‘Abdu’l-Baha resolved the matter immediately. He started by telling some funny stories and, before long, both men were laughing.
Then he said that His home was a home of peace and joy, a home of laughter and happiness. He did not want them to leave with feelings of enmity in their hearts.
The men listened carefully, thinking about the Master’s words.
After a while, ‘Abdu’l-Baha gave hem each some sweets and a silk handkerchief. These were to be a token of their promise of friendship.
The two men smiled. They recognised that it was God Who had directed their steps to ‘Abdu’l-Baha’s home that day. And they went away from His presence joyful and full of laughter.
Blessing for the Home
Fill Thou, O God, our home
with harmony and happiness,
with laughter and delight,
with radiant kindness and overflowing joy,
that in the union of our hearts
thy love may find a lodging place
and Thou thyself may make this home of ours Thine own.
